Craftsmen in residency at the Academy - Costume designer – production coordination

The Paris National Opera Academy offers a development program to enable artists and craftsmen at the start of their careers to improve their skills. It brings together singers, orchestral musicians, conductors, stage directors, costume designers, makeup artists/wig makers. The Academy aims to contribute to the emergence of a new generation of professionals, artists and craftsmen by allowing them to specialize and at the same time open up to the professional practices of other trades which take part in the curtain raiser each evening at the Paris National Opera.

Concerning the artistic profession aspect, the mission of the Academy is to prepare young artisans for the conditions of their future profession in the fields of costume, wig and makeup. Young professionals thus have the opportunity to confront the performing arts professions and to specialize.

Coming from technical or artisanal training, residents will complete their training, accompanied by professionals from the Paris National Opera with exceptional expertise and savoir-faire. The training course is also punctuated by specific modules depending on the disciplines. The training course also allows you to discover the different artistic professions by having the possibility of attending ballet rehearsals, operas, etc.

Program of activities for artisans

Professional role training in the workshops with costume production managers at the Opéra Bastille and the Palais Garnier
Participation in lyrical creations and concerts/recitals of the Academy with artists in residence at the Academy
Cycle of transversal theoretical seminars on themes related to the Opera, for example: scenography in the 20^th century and 21^st century, historical hairstyle, textile recognition, etc.
Periods of secondment within other Opera workshops or within partner institutions, in order to discover new professional practices
Discovery of opera and ballet by attending, for example, orchestral and general scenes

Candidate profile

For the 2025-2026 season, we are looking for 2 candidates wishing to train in the field of opera or ballet costume production coordination.

Admission Requirements (Cumulative Conditions)

Applicants must at least 18 years old and at most 29 years old on September 1^st, 2025
Applicants must have a DTMS, BMA, DNMADE or equivalent. The diploma must be validated

Interview with a jury of professionals

Interviews will take place (subject to change) on March 12 and March 13 at the Opéra Bastille: 120 rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris.

Residency conditions at the Paris National Opera Academy

Duration of residency: 10 months - from September 1^st, 2025 to June 30, 2026 full-time.

The artisans in residence are engaged in a professionalization contract and receive remuneration of a gross monthly amount equivalent to 80% of the minimum wage

No tuition fees are payable.
