Bought this out of compulsion
The Tally Prime is on e of the most widely used software in India. I bought this as there is no better alternative to it. The software do not works online and have serious issues with user management. The Pros are - Very easy to use, full of shortcut keys, detailed reports available for GST, TDS, Payrolls, cons: Lack of flexibility in user management, User roll creation, cloud platform unavailable, Financial statements as per Companies Act not available which were available in Tally ERP 9, Customer support is very poor as most of the support executives cant even normal hindi.

I am using tally from last more than 10 years, and I found this is the only software for accounting, returns for keeping safe records, and where I go there I see their accounting on telly so we can know its popularity. We are into business of providing Book-keeping services to our clients and for that we were requiring such accounting software which could help us to maintain data of multiple company on same license and at the same it shall also be able to generate various reports so that our client could easily be impressed with our work. This was the main reason we jump to Tally which later updated into TallyPrime. TallyPrime has more accessibility than Tally ERP 9. GST return filing with Tally software is one of the important thing one can easily appreciate. My overall experience with TallyPrime is by far good. Though I think there are few features such as Payroll Management for manpower companies, POS billing, etc. are the thing which should be there in TallyPrime (these features can be achieved through TDL/modules, but it will cost you additional money).

Multiple Company Creation with one licence makes it cost-effective. GST report Generation,especially GSTR-1 for B2B transaction which can take your lot of time if you do it online becomes very easy and time-saving. Tally is one of the easy to use product with their shortcut keys which increases you efficiency.

We use silver version of TallyPrime and the most important feature that we miss in that is to use it anywhere with cloud technology. We are paying additional amount to use this feature, I think this should be part of the software. We mail our invoices directly from TallyPrime to client but everytime we login, it will ask for Password which quite irritating.

Unlike VAT GST was very cumbersome and especially inter state trades bifurcation was a tedious process a simple ledger created by Tally ERP system takes away the burden and ensures error free transaction,the software cost is pocket friendly, haven't had any issue do haven't had need to use customer service, the pool of people available readily trained in Tally ERP helps easy replacement when there is staff sick or quilting

For beginners, a little training will work wonders in keeping accounts. One gets to learn the shortcuts, so maintaining books becomes easy.
Cons
However, as transactions complicate, and slowly as you introduce automation in your business, especially when it is a service-based industry, the trouble begins. One needs custom modules to streamline various businesses, and that's way rigidity of Tally causes issues. I would rather opt for open source systems which can be tweaked with the help of a developer than Tally, whose code is proprietary. Plus, Tally works wonders on Windows Machine, but if you want to access it remotely, or anywhere, there is no web module as such. Overall, I would recommend it for small business only.

Tally Backbone of Indian SME
Over all tally is the one of the best options for accounting but when I think of other options which offer me entering transactions from anywhere its becomes difficult to judge it. Tally do not provide data on the cloud is one more feature required in todays word. One can not enter transactions remotely. Importing transactions in tally is not easy. Features I really liked are GST Reports, Auditing and Analysis tools, TDS compliance features, Budget features, Inventory management tools. The speed of entering transactions is lightning fast with the help of shortcut keys. GST filling, Drawing Financial statements as required under Companies Act 2013, TDS Return calculations, Interest calculation and Budgeting are far more easy with the help of Tally. One more feature which I use frequently is importing Bank statement.
