Alexander Tsymbalyuk Bass

Biography

Alexander Tsymbalyuk was born in Ukraine and studied at the Odessa Conservatory. He studied with Ludmila Ivanova, Vasiliy Navrotskiy and Paata Burchuladze. The winner of numerous competitions (the Elena Obraztsova Competition in Moscow in 2006, the Riccardo Zandonai Competition in Italy and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2007), he made his debut at the Hamburg State Opera.

He was soon invited to perform on major international stages. Previous engagements include the Chief of Police and the Old Prisoner (Mzensk's Lady Macbeth), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Timur (Turandot), Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Bartolo (The Marriage of Figaro) and Fasolt (L'Or du Rhin) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Ferrando (Le Trouvère) at London's Royal Opera House, Sparafucile (Rigoletto) at Chicago's Lyric Opera, Timur at New York's Metropolitan Opera, Prince Gremin at the Hamburg State Opera.

He has also appeared in Rubinstein's The Demon at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and in concert: Don Giovanni in Japan, Samson et Dalila at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Boris Godounov at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In the 2024-2025 season, Alexander Tsymbalyuk will sing the title role in Boris Godunov at the Hamburg State Opera and the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo) at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples. In concert, he sang Verdi's Requiem in Aix-en-Provence, Dijon and at the Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg. He has just been appointed Kammersänger at the Hamburg State Opera.
