Sava Vemić Bass

Biography

Born in Belgrade, Sava Vemić studied at the Music Faculty of his hometown and then at the Lindeman Young Artists Development Program of the Metropolitan Opera in New York from 2014 to 2017. He excelled in several competitions (first prize at the Opera Index International Competition in New York in 2016, first prize at the Gerda Lissner Competition in 2014).

He made his professional debut in 2013 as Sarastro (The Magic Flute) in Belgrade, a role he has since performed in Tokyo and Munich. Other important roles in his career include Ramfis (Aida) in Dresden and Belgrade, Silva (Ernani) in Antwerp, Ferrando (Le Trouvère) in Palermo, the King (Aida) at the Arena of Verona, Sparafucile (Rigoletto) in Munich, Verbier and at the National Theater of Guatemala, Henry VIII (Anna Bolena), Crespel (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), the Commander (Don Giovanni) in Munich, Prince Grémine (Eugène Onéguine) in Hawaii and Munich, Death (The Emperor of Atlantis) in Seville, Osmin (The Abduction from the Seraglio) in Tel Aviv.

Recently he sang Oroveso (Norma) at the Odeo Herodes Atticus Theater in Athens, Bauer (Gurrelieder) with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Don Fernando (Fidelio) with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Mephistopheles (Faust) at the Serbian National Theater in Novi Sad, Faust (The Angel of Fire) at the Teatro Petruzelli in Bari and Eliakim (Judith of Parać) with the Munich Radio Orchestra.

At the Opéra national de Paris: Mzensk's Lady Macbeth (the chief of police/an officer), 2019; Tosca (Cesare Angelotti), 2019, 2022; Don Carlo (a monk), 2019; Salomé (The Fifth Jew), 2022; Adriana Lecouvreur (Il Principe di Bouillon), 2024.
