Born in Berlin in 1972, Yvonne Gebauer studied German Literature, Philosophy and Religion at the Free University of Berlin. She has worked as a dramatic advisor for opera and theatre since 1998. She has worked with Hans Neuenfels for over twenty years and is also closely associated with Claus Guth, Christof Loy and Nadja Loschky.
Other directors with whom she has worked include Kazuko Watanabe, Johan Simons, Frank Hilbrich, Tobias Kratzer, David Hermann and Amélie Niermeyer. She has taught dramaturgy at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg (Reinhard von der Thannen's costume class), the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna (Erich Wonder's design class), the Mozarteum University in Salzburg (Amélie Niermeyer's directing class), the Weisensee Academy of Art in Berlin (Stefan Hageneier's design class) and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin.
From 2001 to 2008 she worked as a freelance journalist for the literary section of the Suddeutsche Zeitung. From 2009 to 2018, she worked as a dramaturge at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and as an iconographer for Max Joseph magazine.
