Greek soprano Danae Kontora studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and the Theaterakademie August Everding, and was awarded the Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis in 2015. She performs a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary, with the role of the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) forming the backbone of her recent seasons.
She has sung this role at the Dresden Semperoper, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Stuttgart Staatsoper and the Komische Oper in Berlin. She made her debut as Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Finnish National Opera and as Oscar (Un bal masqué) at the Israeli Opera. She made her debuts at the Vienna State Opera as Frantzi (Staud's Die Weiden), at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Philippe (Penderecki's Les Diables de Loudun), at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa as Adele (The Bat) and at the Hamburg State Opera as Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). She has also sung Frasquita (Carmen) for the Greek National Opera and Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) for the Erfurt Theatre and the Gärtnerplatztheater.
Concert appearances include Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream with the Munich Radio Orchestra, Mendelssohn's Elias with the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem with the Bamberg Symphony, and Claude Vivier's Kopernikus at the Munich Biennale Contemporary Music Festival. Following her debut at the Edinburgh Festival as Waldvogel (Siegfried), she was invited to reprise the role of Woglinde (Twilight of the Gods) with the Royal Scottish Orchestra.
In the 2024-2025 season, her roles include Die Königin der Nacht at the Gärtnerplatz, Musetta (La Bohème) at the Greek National Opera and Ormoena (Octavia) at the Handel Festival in Halle.
