Since September 2015, Kent Nagano has been General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and Principal Conductor of the Hamburg Philharmonic. He has been Honorary Conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin since 2006, of Concerto Köln since 2019, of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 2021 and of the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra since 2023, and is Patron of the Herrenchiemsee Festival.
The 2024-2025 season will be his last in Hamburg, with four new productions at the Staatsoper, concerts at the Elbphilharmonie and a tour of Asia. Kent Nagano regularly works with the world's leading orchestras, including the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Orchestre de la Suisse romande, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
This season he has been invited to conduct the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Passau, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin. His opera guest appearances include the revival of Ligeti's Grand Macabre at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
He is also artistic director of the tetralogy project 'The Wagner Cycles' with Concerto Köln and the Dresden Festival Orchestra. Under the artistic direction of Kent Nagano and Jan Vogler, director of the Dresden Music Festival, the Ring will be performed from 2023 to 2026 in the artistic context of its time, based on the latest research on Wagner and performance practice of the time. In 2025, the "Wagner Cycles" project will continue with Siegfried.
